1. Student Loans This has been a great source for funding for college tuition for many years, the upside is you can fairly easily get them and payback over years later down the road.
2. Part Time Job or Full Time Job. Yes, this is a viable option many college students pick up a job to help pay for their college themselves. There are all types of jobs if you look in the right places local restaurants, library, park districts, local bar, etc.
3. Freelancing. Not many college students know about this but there are many online sites where you can freelance to make some extra cash. If you have a skill such as research, writing, telemarketing, web design, or just about anything advertise yourself on one of the Freelancing sites such as Odesk or Elance, then place bids on jobs you find on those sites and if you are qualified there is a good chance they will contract you.
4. Blogging Why not start a Blog and in your spare time create posts that will help entertain or teach people about something you love to do. Once you are Blogging and have some followers you can start offering affiliate programs to them where you make money if they buy from your site or you could even create your own product and sell it.
5. Grants. There are many types of Grants available to students. Do some research online and ask the workers in the financial aid office about options they may know about. A Grant is nice to get as this doesn’t have to ever be paid back like loans do. There are tons of Grants out there, just look around and research it.
6. Ask Family. Parents generally will help with what they can. Perhaps, you were one of the luckier kids who have parents with money. Perhaps not, parents are still a viable source and may be able to help some. There also may be other people in your family willing ot help send a family member to college, just ask.
7. Ask your professor if he/she needs an assistant. Many times the professors will need some help with things and are willing to pay for the help.

We have heard about the theories that men are from Mars and women are from Venus and how the general differences over all affect the communication processes and change the dynamics of conversation.

Recently, a bright student from the University of Colorado mentioned to our think that that the levels of hormones in the body vary greatly from male and female humans and thus they do not perceive the “communication experience” in the same way.

Well that is an interesting comment indeed. Yes, one would think and it seems to be a truism that men and women communicate differently. Of course you know some say that the difference between a given man and a given woman is less than the total difference of ALL MEN or ALL WOMEN? So that is also an interesting thing.

Sometimes we have found that men and women attack a problem or problem solve differently, yet in the end come to the same over all conclusion, they just get there different ways, which indeed brings on another debate? Should humans agree to disagree on the means and work towards the ends that everyone could or should rationally agree upon. I find those debates rather interesting too.

The Colorado Student also suggested that “It seems to me that men just don’t get as physically excited during the communication process.”

Once again, a very interesting point here is made and so maybe it depends more on the subject matter? We are not sure why a woman would necessarily get physically excited over mere communication? But, depending on how the brains are wired and remember there is a little difference of ratios of white-to-gray matter between average males or average females. Now then this hormonal thing is worthy of mention, provided either party of a conversation has their bodies working right (correctly) and that their brains are actually turned on.

Wouldn’t you also suppose that some conversation and communication is simply “Bla” and therefore no one can get physically excited about it? I mean “what do you think of the garbage service in this neighborhood?” See what I mean? Well, I hope this subject matter provides you with some intellectual thought in 2007.

For quite some time now, there has been a big debate about whether or not college athletes should be paid. Some people believe that a scholarship should be payment enough. After all, a scholarship can be easily worth $15,000 – $25,000 or more per year, plus a career after college that can be worth a million dollars over a lifetime. Additionally, student athletes receive all kinds of perks while they are in college, like staying at fancy hotels, being seen on national tv, and all of the notoriety that goes with being a stare athlete. Its hard to put a price tag on all of that.

However, considering the fact that certain college sports generate millions of dollars for college athletic programs, many people believe the athletes are being used. If the average football scholarship is worth $20,000 per year, yet the university gains $70,000 per year in revenue per scholarship player (please note that this figure is just an estimate – the actual number may actually be higher), the university will profit $50,000 per year, per scholarship player, or $200,000 over a four year period.

It is very difficult to put a numeric value on exactly how much an athlete is worth to a college. A star quarterback will not only help sell tickets, but will bring in plenty of merchandise sales as well. The NCCA won’t allow the universities to sell a college football jersey with a player’s name on it, but they will sell the jersey with the player’s number on it, which is easily recognizable in local, and sometimes national markets. The major colleges earn enormous sums of money on this kind of merchandise alone, yet the student athlete who’s number is being used to sell merchandise will not see one dime of the profits. To say that the student athlete isn’t being exploited in this situation is an understatement.

It goes way beyond that. College athletic programs rake in millions from television and advertising contracts. They also bring in millions of dollars of donations from sports boosters. Yes, salaries need to be paid to athletic directors and coaches, not to mention travel and other costs for the student athletes, and it is great that major college football and basketball programs help fund non-revenue athletic programs. However, the fact of the matter is that, compared to the amount of revenue that student athletes generate for their colleges, what they receive in return is very small.

Here’s where it gets really interesting. An athlete can be “disciplined” for selling their tickets to a fan on game day, yet how much money do the directors of the NCAA earn as a result of the efforts of the student athletes? The reality is that the college athletes quite literally pay for a large portion of the salaries of every person employed by the NCAA. If an executive from the NCAA is able to drive a Mercedes, he can thank a star quarterback or running back for that, and perhaps even several walk ons.

So here is the point: if the NCAA, coaches, and athletic directors can earn huge sums of money from the student athletes, shouldn’t student athletes have a piece of the pie too? This isn’t to say that college athletes should get paid large amounts of money, but it would definitely be nice if their scholarships would pay them a little extra to go out for pizza every once and a while, or buy some nice clothes – just a little extra spending cash as a way of saying “thanks” for their efforts.

If for some reason college athletes could be paid, that opens up a whole new can of worms. All of the athletes on a football team with 125 players work very hard in practice, but only 11can start on offense and defense – do you only pay the starters?. Additionally, if you were to pay more to the star quarterback than you do for an “ok” receiver, you are going to run into a lot of other problems. Having said this, the first thing you want to avoid with paying college athletes is student athletes squabbling how much money they earn or should earn, which happens frequently in the NFL.

The second thing you want to avoid is an uneven playing field. While some colleges at the division I level could afford to pay athletes, many simply don’t bring in enough revenue. If a student athlete knows he can earn more at USC than he will if he plays for his state university, then the playing field becomes more uneven than it already is. Athletes would almost always choose the “money schools” over other colleges. Technically, this happens today more than people realize, because colleges with the most tradition, best coaches, and the best records are usually the colleges with the most money…but, if one college could afford to pay more to athletes than other colleges, the playing field would be even more uneven.

If you are going to start paying athletes, all of the athletes need to be paid the same amount of money, and all of the colleges would need to have the same amount of money to pay their athletes with, which could be pre-determined by the NCAA. Even if this amount was a small amount like $1,000 PER YEAR, per player (which totals ($125,000 per year for a college football team with 125 players), paid every month during the school year, it would be a lot more fair to the student athletes…and most colleges at the Division I level could certainly afford it. For the few colleges that couldn’t afford it, the NCAA could always put up the extra money out of the millions it generates from the bowl game. Another alternative would be to cut the salaries of every executive of the NCAA who has gotten rich off of NCAA athletics by 25%- and give the difference to the athletes…

Most of this article focused on college football programs. The revenues that are generated from basketball programs are even more staggering, considering that the teams, are smaller, the travel expenses are less expensive, and that fewer scholarships need to be handed out, making the profits that the NCAA earns from college basketball programs even more staggering.

Indeed, quite an off the beaten track topic this is, but I’ve been inspired to write this article because I know it can help a lot of people come to terms with how important it is to take up singing lessons not to prove themselves to anybody, but to do it for themselves. Some particular cases emanating from my studio have made me realize how a self-inflicted burden such as this can affect a pupil. So let me explain the thought processes that run through such an individual’s mind, and how that affects their performance and concentration in class.

The crux of the matter is, one taking up singing lessons to prove to someone else or a group of people that they have the potential to become good singers, instead of that being a source of motivation to achieve what they signed up for, it tends to lay a huge burden upon them that constantly distracts them from focusing. Through the lesson, I have observed, that I repeat myself on countless occasions. The pupil, I find to be eternally self-conscious and lacks the confidence to perform well. When I dig into the probable cause of this, I find that there’s someone or some people waiting to see HOW they fair. Now this puts a lot of pressure on them to deliver because they’re constantly worried about failure. And the end result is they DO fail miserably because they’re way too distracted to concentrate on learning. It becomes a state of constant fear and panic. Not a pretty sight. If anything, it is very annoying.

So here’s the deal. You want to learn to sing? Do it for YOU. Do not get into this to prove anything whatsoever to anyone in your circle of friends or elsewhere. (In any case, why would anyone want to do that?) If you hadn’t read this article you wouldn’t have discovered that it actually works against you. You’d be better off not taking singing lessons at all. Wouldn’t you agree? The ideal student of voice is one that wants to do it to improve their voice for THEM rather than for anybody else. And this type of student steps into class looking forward to the lesson and enjoying the therapeutic qualities of the lesson. Just the other day, one of students said to me “I really feel relaxed when I come here. This is a form of therapy. And looking out the window, your garden is so beautiful it adds to the calm.” So there you have it! If you want to enjoy your singing lessons AND come away with something, take a more relaxed approach. The less outside pressure you impose upon yourself the better. So the next time you attend a vocal training session, be sure to leave your burden at the door, and enjoy the lesson.
